To the love of my life

i want to write so much about you Ma,
i just don’t know where to begin
i don’t want to wait till it’s mother’s day or women’s day or even your birthday
so that i a acknowledge how much you mean to me,
how much i appreciate that you’re in my life every single day
i used to think we have the worst relationship in the entire planet
but life has taught me to appreciate imperfection
because then I’ll know it’s real

i know we don’t have so many photos together
but believe me the memories in my head are worth more
I’m not sure you know this
but all my sorrows fade away at sound of your voice
i can’t find the right words
but the assurance in your voice in the midst of my breakdowns
make all the broken pieces of my heart reunite
and all my wounds feel like they been applied ointment

yes we’ll all say that’s a bit exaggerated
but i wish you would actually feel
what i feel during that phone call
how my face beams with joy
how i just become lively

yes all mothers are strong  and  enduring
but i’m talking about this particular one
the one that was given to me by God
this one that i love so much
but
i don’t even know how to show it
let’s not even talk about how bad i am at saying
what it is i actually  feel directly to someone
somehow all of these come out wrong

so mama
i celebrate your existence every single day of my existence
i can proudly say that this is one of my strongest ongoing relationships
it has survived mood swings
misunderstandings, lies, long distances
yet here we are
still strong
because
we made those unwritten and unspoken promises
that
you’ll forever be mine and
I’ll be forever yours
